Indian Premier League 2020 Prediction and Who Will Win IPL 2020

The countdown is on for the biggest cricketing carnival of the year. Indian Premier League 2020 is just weeks away and punters around the world have already started preparing to bet on this tournament. The last edition of the IPL saw about $10 billion worth of stakes in the betting market. No other cricketing tournament in the world comes even close to the Indian Premier League when it comes to the level of interest, the eyeballs and the money involved. You may have already started searching for IPL predictions as bookmakers have started coming up with odds for the first few games. Here we take you through the team previews and IPL predictions for the season.

IPL 2020 Team Previews

Mumbai Indians

The defending champions would come with a bag load of expectation from their fans. With four title wins they are the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Led by Indian opener Rohit Sharma the team covers all the bases in batting and bowling departments and is blessed to have quality players in JaspritBumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Trent Boult, Mitchell McClenaghan and Chris Lynn. Rohit would be eying record 5th title this season.

Chennai Super Kings

Three title wins and eight appearances in the finals of the league, CKS are the synonym of consistency in this tournament. While the side holds the unwanted record of losing five finals they would look to get over the chokers tag in this edition under the inspirational leadership of MS Dhoni. They have good players in their ranks that includes the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Josh Hazlewood Suresh Raina, Shane Watson, Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar, Lungi Ngidi and Faf du Plessis.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

They didn’t have the best of form last year but Kane Williamson’s side is one of the title contenders for this season. They have good balance in the squad and can make use of any condition and this gives the 2016 title winners the edge going into this one. The side is blessed to have a well-balanced squad with players like David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Billy Stanlake, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Navi and Vijay Shankar

Delhi Capitals

They haven’t won a title yet but showed great form and determination in the last season where they finished third.  Led by a young Shreyas Iyer the side is blessed to have some of the most exacting players in this format of the game in the squad. Iyer would be aiming to go higher than last year and has the support of T20 stars such including Jason Roy, Kagiso Rabada, Sandeep Lamichhane Rishab Pant, Marcus Stoinis, and Chris Woakes.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

They are the team with maximum star power and yet they have always let down their fans. It is unimaginable for a side that has Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in its rank to always find itself at the bottom of the points table. Skipper Kohli would look to turn it around this season and not have memes written about them. They pack a good punch in the squad with players like Aaron Finch, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Kane Richardson, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris and Parthiv Patel.

Kings XI Punjab

They have been the bottom hunters for the last five seasons and not gone beyond the 6th position. KL Rahul has been picked as the skipper for the season and the owners along with the fans would hope to see him break the jinx. The skipper is in good form and is expected to lead by example. The team has big names that include Chris Gayle, Sheldon Cottrell, Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Glenn Maxwell, James Neesham, Chris Jordan and Nicholas Pooran.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Dinesh Karthik has a big challenge on his hand as he leads the side this season. The two time title winners had a disastrous season in 2019 where they looked like a one-man show with Andre Russell’s form deciding their fate. They have to get over this dependence on one player and play well this year. The side is blessed with young talent on ShivamMavi, Tom Banton, Shubman Gill and big stars such as Eoin Morgan, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson.

Rajasthan Royals

They won the first IPL title in 2008 but since then the team hasn’t’ even come close to repeating that success. Regular controversies hasn’t helped the side either and they finished 7th last season. Steven Smith is back leading the side and he will look to inspire the side to a title won this time. He will have good resources for the task in Robin Uthappa, David Miller, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Andrew Tye, Ben Stokes, Tom Curran and Jos Buttler.

IPL 2020 Winner Odds

Based on the team composition and the past record of the eight sides, bookmakers have assigned their odds for the teams. Here are the outright winner odds for IPL 2020.

Which Team Will Win IPL 2020?

It’s a new season and with all the teams packed with exceptional quality talent, it isn’t the easiest choice to make. But here we will stretch our neck out and pick out the likely winners for the season –

  • Mumbai Indians– They are big match players and when pushed to a corner Mumbai Indians have always come out winning in the last few dozens of the league. They have good strength in their batting and bowling departments and would definitely start the season as favourites.
  • Chennai Super Kings – We pick CSK based on their consistency. They have seldom had a bad season in the league and hold strong in their home fort. With the kind of star hitters they have and MS Dhoni leading them with a calm head, the team can go the distance and bag its 4th
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad–If there is a perfect team in the tournament that has all its bases covered in terms of stroke makers, run accumulators, fast bowlers and spinners it is the team from Hyderabad. They will be one of the teams to watch out this season.

Apart from these three, we believe the Delhi Capitals and the Kings XI Punjab would start as the dark horses in the tournament. They may not have the big names but have their players in good form. If these two sides are able to play well as a unit we may have a new title winner in this edition of the tournament.
