Michael Buffer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born on November 2, 1944. He was brought up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His father was in the United States Navy and fought in World War II. His parents got divorced when he was just 11 months old. Buffer enlisted in the United States Army and served from 20-23.

His birth father contacted him in1989 after he recognized Buffer on television. He was also introduced to his half-brothers. One of his half-brothers is also an announcer Bruce Buffer is his stepbrother and is an announcer for UFC.

Buffer was in love with his ex-wife and got married at the age of 21. The couple got divorced seven years later. They have two sons together named Michael and Matthew. He did not remarry until 1999. He got divorced from his second wife in 2003. Buffer made an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and made a proposal to his third wife, Christine on the show. The couple is still married and together. Christine and Michael Buffer live in Southern California.
