The dosage of Metformin

Adult dosage

This dosage is applicable for people between the ages of 18-79

Starting dosage

500 mg of the drug twice a day or 850 mg for once at any time of the day. It is recommended that you don’t take the medicine empty stomach. Take it with your meals.

Dosage increase after a few days

If the drug suits you the doctor might increase the quantity of the drug. The most common increase is 500 mg weekly or 850 mg between the periods of two weeks.

If the doctor recommends you to take 2000 mg of the drug every day you might get scheduled to take the medicine three times a day.

Maximum dosage

The maximum dosage of the drug is 2500 mg and it shouldn’t be increased than this. If a person increases the dosage he/she might face severe side effects. If you are above 80 years old you shouldn’t take the maximum dosage.
