Fun Rainy-Day Activities for All the Family This Summer

School is almost out for summer; therefore, children and adults alike will soon be enjoying weeks of vacation or long holiday weekends. Despite the fact that summer is upon us and we remain hopeful for bright sunny weather day after day from now until September, it is inevitable that there will be the odd rainy day.

With everyone suddenly stuck indoors and the possibility of postponed or cancelled plans, it is best to have a few tricks up your sleeve to keep everyone entertained. Theserainy-day activities will keep the fun alive even in the worst of weather. More importantly they will help to keep the peace when everyone is feeling a little ratty at the thought of being stuck indoors.

  1. Online gaming

This is an easy option for all the family on a rainy day. When it comes to online games there is something for everyone. The children can enjoy the latest adventure games on the tablet. Meanwhile parents can enjoy everything from ruling their own kingdom in a fantasy world to taking advantage of a free spin on their favourite online casinofrom their mobile phone. It’s a great way to pass an hour between showers on a summer day.

  1. Painting

It is the worst nightmare of some parents but painting will keepthe young ones busy. Lay down the biggest table cloth you can find in the house and let everyone loose with a selection of paints, paper and card. You can even use an old white bedsheet as a canvas and create something altogether as a family.

Even for those without children, painting can be a really relaxing activity. It is not necessary to be great at it to enjoy it. But for those who prefer a little guidance, then purchase a paint by numbers kit or even a mindfulness colouring book. You won’t feel the time passing by.

  1. Baking

Get everyone involved in an afternoon of baking. Keep it simple, especially if kids are involved. Cupcakes are a great option as you will need to return to the kitchen later to decorate them. If the weather improves then you can take your baked goods outside for an afternoon tea or picnic in the garden or park.

  1. Home cinema

Turn the living room into a home cinema. Lay cushions and blankets on the floor. Pull the curtains and turn off all the lights. With all the on-demand streaming sites available there is sure to be a movie to suit the entire household. Prepare the popcorn and you are all set for an at-home screening of your favourite film or a binge session of the latest series.

  1. Have akitchen disco

On the next rainy day, dim the lights and prepare you favourite playlist for a kitchen disco.

If you have children then you are sure to have some fairy lights or sensory lights which can be used to create a disco feel. All the better if you have an actual disco ball.

Add to the fun by encouraging everyone to dress as randomly as possible, dig deep into the costume cupboard or dress up box.

A kitchen disco works great if you find yourself stuck for things to do while on a weekend away with friends too, it’s a fantastic way of getting the endorphins going and lightening the spirits. Everyone will be in a great mood by the end of it.

  1. Embrace the rain

Sir Ranulph Fiennes once said “There’s no such thing as bad weatheronly unsuitable clothing.”If bad weather is on the cards for the entire weekend or a few days in a row sometimes it is just best to embrace it. Get out the waterproof clothing, rain boots and umbrellas and just go for. Children usually don’t pass much remarks on the weather anyways so they will likely enjoy themselves. Everyone, even the adults will feel much better after fresh air and exercise.
