PTI gets simple majority in AJK Legislative Assembly 2021

The PTI has emerged victorious in the elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, winning by a simple majority, according to unofficial, preliminary results. The party will consequently form a government in the region.

Although results of three polling stations are pending, unofficial results showed PTI in the lead with 25 seats, PPP in second place with nine and PML-N in third place with six seats.

Both the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) and the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) have also won one seat each.

Ahead of the results across all 45 constituencies being announced, celebrations broke out in PTI’s camp after it won simple majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in the general election on Sunday, according to unofficial results.

Although results of five polling stations were pending, unofficial results showed  PTI in the lead with 25 seats,  PPP in second place with nine and PML-N in third place with six seats.

Both the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) and the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) also won one seat each.

“The Ambassador of Kashmir has won. Congratulations Pakistan!” PTI tweeted in triumph.

The polling has ended for the residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to cast their vote and elect the members to the AJK Legislative Assembly for the next constitutional term.

There are over 3.2 million voters in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), out of which 1.75 million (54.42%) are male and 1.46 million (45.58%) are female.

AJK election are being held under the supervision of the AJK Judiciary, Pakistan Army and Rangers along with the coordination of the local civil law enforcement authorities, including AJK Police, Punjab Civil Armed Forces, KPK Police and the Frontier Constabulary, which worked to ensure peaceful and fair poll in a transparent manner.

There are 33 electoral constituencies in ten districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), while 12 constituencies are reserved for Pakistan-based Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) refugees. There were polling booths set up in all provinces for these refugees.

There are a total of 691 candidates, which includes 310 independent candidates and 381 candidates belonging to 32 registered political parties, running in the AJK Election 2021.
