Trump Downplays Fears of China-Russia Alliance Against US

Former President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns over the strengthening partnership between China and Russia, asserting that the United States’ unmatched military power makes any direct threat unlikely. His remarks come amid growing global attention on Beijing and Moscow’s efforts to present an alternative to the Western-led world order.

In a recent radio interview, Trump was asked if he feared the emergence of a China-Russia axis that could challenge Washington. He responded with confidence, stressing America’s military superiority.

“We have the strongest military in the world, by far,” Trump said. “They would never use their military on us. Believe me, that would be the worst thing they could ever do.”

Trump, who has consistently highlighted his ability to broker peace in global conflicts, reiterated his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He criticized Putin for not taking steps toward ending the war in Ukraine but framed the issue as one of humanitarian concern rather than geopolitics. “I am very disappointed in President Putin,” Trump remarked. “It’s not a question of Ukraine. It’s helping people live.”

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Putin recently showcased their partnership during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin. The two leaders criticized U.S. influence in global affairs, and Putin attended China’s largest-ever military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II. Analysts view the display as Beijing’s effort to demonstrate its expanding power on the world stage.

When asked whether the parade was a direct challenge to the U.S., Trump rejected the suggestion. “I don’t see that at all,” he told reporters. “I have a very good relationship with President Xi … but China needs us much more than we need them.”

Taking to social media, Trump also reflected on the history of U.S. involvement in World War II, questioning whether Xi would recognize America’s sacrifices in securing China’s wartime freedom. “Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory,” he wrote, before wishing the Chinese people a “great and lasting day of celebration.” In a characteristic flourish, he also extended his regards to Xi, Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The remarks highlight Trump’s ongoing emphasis on U.S. strength and his personal diplomacy, while underscoring the shifting dynamics of international power as Beijing and Moscow continue to deepen ties.
