What is Stem Cell Therapy?

As the name might suggest, stem cells are used to treat a particular disease or condition and that is known as stem cell therapy. The medical field is quite vast and it is ever-expanding, new drugs and new methods and techniques are popping up every year to cure or treat some disease or condition.

Stem cells were first discovered in the blood of a human cord, back in 1978. Since then, they have been used in research to develop new treatments for both humans and animals. Over the years many stem cells related therapies were found that were very helpful in treating certain injuries, diseases or other conditions.

However, it is still a relatively new find and lots of research and experimental and clinical trials have been set up over the years to see if it’s safe for the patients and its uses. The clinical trials have been numerous but the ones approved as safe and effective are very few. Many of the uses and the research conducted using stem cells have garnered a lot of controversies over the years on topics like human cloning and abortion.
