They Hacked the National Bank of Cayman Islands: they filter thousands of data

Once again the controversy and the worldwide expectation for the hacking of an entity, in this case, the National Bank of the Cayman Islands, regulated under an international banking license and with information of almost 1500 clients. The information was published on the web by a hacker who at the same time offers a reward for those who do the same.

Behind the cyberattack appeared a likely responsible known as Phineas Fisher, an entity that was awarded the attack that is not the first, because there are already records of other hacks in 2014 and 2016 to security companies. In this case and in the case of a banking entity of a strategic site, it could become a scandal as the world-famous case of Panama Papers.

In this case, Fisher published a guide to hack banks and offered a reward of 100,000 for those who do the same since, for such grouping, these entities must be “expropriated.” In addition, it has oil companies in its sights, or for those who attack an oil company. In theory, the “Hacktivist Bug Hunting Program” began the “hunt” with the National Bank of the Cayman Islands, based in the British Isle of Man where there are huge fortunes in offshore accounts to evade taxes.

According to the group, “computer hacking is a powerful tool to combat economic inequality” that is why the bank’s 1500 customers are disclosed. One of the specialized sites – Unicorn Riot – accessed the more than 1400 customer accounts of the Isle of Man, Cyprus, the United Kingdom, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Seychelles, the United States, Belize, Ireland and others jurisdictions such as Gibraltar, Jersey, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, Guernsey, Malta and Mauritius.

Among recognized personalities, the website mentioned more than twenty “politically exposed people” that appear in the bank’s data records, such as the former president of the Bank of Moscow and his relatives, a high-profile entertainment agent in Hollywood and the brother of the former mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel.
