The eternal doubt: why do dogs smell their tails?

Many make hypotheses about why and for what purpose, but the proven answer is
related to the way dogs communicate and know each other, and according to the Chemical Society of the United States (ACS), the key is “in chemistry ” They, having a highly developed smell compared to humans, use that sense for numerous actions and reactions.

That is why it is very common for a dog to approach another to smell it in the tail and in other parts of the body because, basically, what it is doing is collecting information about the other, whether from its mood about whether it is happy, sad or angry, even if you feel worried or excitement about the meeting.

George Preti, an expert scientist in pheromones and human odors of the Monell Center for Chemistry of the Senses, analyzed the anal secretions of dogs and coyotes and identified the main components of the secretions produced by the glands housed in two small
bags called “anal sacs ” For ACS experts, they point out that dogs have an auxiliary olfactory system called the “Jacobson Organ” or “Vomeronasal” that is specifically designed for chemical communication.

In addition, it has its own nerves that communicate directly with the
brain, which allows you to “read” the other dog perfectly. Composed of trimethylamine and various volatile fatty acids, the aroma of each dog can change according to its genetics and
immune system.

The supernatural

How many scenes in common do those who have pets live in their homes? Surprising barks, without any reason, to certain corners, incomprehensible attitudes, among other reactions that lead many to think and believe that they have the ability to notice supernatural phenomena. While logically there is no scientific validity in this regard, many experts did not hesitate to investigate why dogs have these “nervous” reactions.

For specialists, there is no evidence or evidence that dogs see ghosts or supernatural phenomena, however, they do claim that they have diverse abilities superior to those of human beings to perceive certain anomalies. For example, smell, hearing and
other more acute senses endow them with other resources like what happened in 2004, the year in which the shocking tsunami occurred in the things of Thailand.

That fateful day, strangely hundreds of wild and domestic animals fled or refused to leave their homes minutes before the tragedy happened. In a routine so desired and expected by them, that day did everything possible not to leave. According to the National
Geographic
experts, “this happened because the animals have such an acute ear that they could hear the vibrations of the Earth, which anticipated that a disaster was approaching before humans knew.”

Psychologist Marti Miller argues that although people also have abilities to perceive the paranormal, “they do it differently because we immediately deny it and rationalize it. Animals, on the other hand, do react to changes. They feel the barometric pressure change and react by shaking, agitating, salivating and feeling anxious, or they may not react at all. ”
