Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier has welcomed the student protests for greater protection for the environment explicitly. Many of the adults have not yet noticed, “it’s five before twelve,” says Steinmeier in Neumünster to students in a “Fridays For the Future,”vigil in front of city hall.

It was the first Time that the Federal President expressed to the Friday demos. It is not only climate protection, but also to the protection of the world’s oceans, said Steinmeier. He referred to his impressions two weeks ago during his visit to the Galapagos Islands. There’s mountains of plastic trash in the water, coming to 90 percent of other countries and continents understatement. “That is why it is so important that you report back to this topic and always aware of what we can do. We need young people like you interfering.”

There were in Germany many, dedicated, currently, paid tribute to the head of state. Some fought for the climate and the environment, some racism, some to democracy and some of the others – “it is also becoming increasingly important” – for decency on the net. “Anyway, I’m glad that you put in you, and that you do differently than those who always say only “Yes you can do anything anyway” – can be something.”

The young Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg have shown this. “You are probably infected by this commitment, so that we can thank you actually only welcome, but encourage you to do more within the school, of course, as a topic in school lessons and, of course, outside of school time.”
