Minister of health, Jens Spahn (CDU) has defended his controversial prediction that cancer can be defeated in ten to 20 years.

“We want to beat cancer, by controlling him. It won’t be easy. But this is precisely why we have to try, it is courageous and ambitious,” he said of the “Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung”. He pointed out that Prevention, early detection, treatment and research have made great progress.

Spahn drew Parallels to the fight against Aids: “Who would have thought 30 years ago that the life expectancy can be a well-treated HIV infection so high as in the absence of infection?” Thanks to successful prevention work, Germany is one of the countries with the lowest HIV infection rates in the world. “That should give us Confidence that we can make a difference.”

The health Minister had taken care of last week, with the forecast for a sensation that he found cancer in ten to 20 years for killable. Experts have expressed considerable doubt and warned, to raise false hopes.
