The 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles played an important role in his life. It is where he won the silver medal in the pole vault event that enhanced his fame. His career shaped up even better as he took a part in the 1936 Summer Olympics. The event was held in Berlin, Germany where he gave another winning performance. He became one of few players who have won a second silver medal in the same event. However, he had a tie with his friend and teammate Sueo Oe. Both friends and teammates didn’t want to compete against each other. The decision was taken by the Japanese team and Nishida was awarded the silver and Oe the bronze. Shuhei won a bronze medal at the age of 41 and the 1951 Asian Games saw a new record coming.
