Facebook has become a less attractive company to work for. The Glassdoor site, where people can post a review from their employer, released its annual rankings today. Facebook dropped from place 7 to place 23, Google dropped from 8 to 11.
HubSpot, 16th last year, is now the most popular employer. The software company is followed by consultant Bain & Company and by DocuSign, which makes electronic signatures.
On Glassdoor, employees and even applicants can give their opinion about their employer. For example, the application process, salary standards and other work-related topics are extensively discussed and reviewed. Many job hoppers use the website to find out more about the expected salary, for example.
There is also criticism on the website. In the past, for example, employers would have encouraged their people to leave positive reviews. The same would have happened to people who were not working at the company in question. Glassdoor says it is working on quality by manually checking all reviews, which are otherwise anonymous.
Most popular
Two years ago Facebook was the most popular employer. Google has consistently been in the top ten for the past eight years. In 2015, the company was even first in the rankings. The companies have many baiters, such as free meals, free transport between home and work, free laundries and play areas.
However, employees are not satisfied with that. Google employees are angry about tackling sexual misconduct, dealing with trade unions and a few controversial projects, such as artificial intelligence for the US army and the development of a censored search engine for the Chinese market.
Facebook, in turn, is moving from one political scandal to another. Facebook leadership, in particular, gets low marks. For example, employees are unhappy about the balance between work and private life.
Other tech giants are also not in demand
Other tech giants are also not very popular. Apple, once a regular customer for the top 25, was 71st last year and is now 84th. Amazon has not reached the top 100 for the twelfth year in a row. LinkedIn dropped from 6 to 12, Salesforce from 11 to 34, Intuit from 38 to 70.
There are, however, a few exceptions. For example, Microsoft rose from 34 to 21 and chipmaker Nvidia from 36 to 20. Slack arrives new at 69.
