The Plot
The movie is based on the third battle of Panipat between the King of Afghanistan and commander of Maratha army Shadashivrao Bhau. The film depicts the war zone during the 18th century and gives an explicit picture of the war and its aftereffects. The magnum opus is based on the historical facts but the director Ashutosh Gowariker has taken some creative liberties and few parts of the movie are a bit exaggerated from the actual story.
The movie proceeds as the king of Afghanistan enters the Indian Territory to defeat the Marathas and to make a powerful existence in the territory. The film depicts the journey of Shasashivrao Bhau who is accompanied by his wife and extended family and he starts his journey from Pune to Delhi. He forms alliances in the way with other influential kings to fight with the hundred-plus army of Ahmad Shah Abdali. The film also explores the complex and intriguing politics of the 18th century and also focuses on the importance of forming an alliance.
