Pakistan Super League is a T20 cricket competition for the cricket crazy nation Pakistan. It is held every year and a total of six teams compete against each other. The format of the series is T20 and the excitement level is rising because the entire tournament is going to be held in Pakistan this year. The aim of PSL was to bring back international cricket back to Pakistan which was halted due to the attack on the Sri Lankan team when they toured to Pakistan years ago.
The professional management and high paychecks have enticed great players from all over the world interested in participating in the super league. In the PSL 4, the Pakistan cricket board managed to host the last 8 matches in the home country whereas the rest were played in other countries. The trophy was won by Quetta Gladiators and the final was nail biting and thrilling enjoyed by a full packed crowd in the stadium.
This year PCB has announced that Pakistan will be hosting the whole tournament from the start to end and the cities that will be honored to host the epic event are Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Multan. All these cities have great grounds available according to the ICC standards.
PSL 2020 Draft New Rules
PCB has announced that this year every team will comprise of 18 players instead of 21 which will lead to a reduction in salaries. This move is taken to facilitate the franchises so that the profit margin is increased and the investments made by them reap better profits for them. The management has decided to limit the salary caps up to $1.1 million dollars. As the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan there is no need to hold in extra players which was the case when the event was held in UAE.
PSL 2020 Draft Retentions
The management of PSL has disclosed that the 6 franchises that are participating are allowed to carry just 8 retentions and limiting the squad to 18 players. Each franchise has to choose 3 platinum, 3 diamond, 3 Gold, 5 silver, and two players that are at an emerging level. The local layers who have their contracts refreshed have the option to be retained with their original teams and if they want to leave the team they have the option to move to the draft pool where they can wait for any team to pick them.
