Laura Dern won her first-ever Academy Award for the best actor for the movie Marriage story. The Netflix marriage story made her the winner on Sunday night when Oscars were held in California USA. The actress has performed well and has given some phenomenal performances in other movies as well but she hasn’t been lucky enough to receive the prestigious trophy before. The actress has played an upright divorce lawyer in the Netflix Marriage story and has impressed the audience and critics with the performance.
She played the character of Scarlett Johnson who is a fierce divorce lawyer. She has collected various other trophies as well for the relationship drama series of Netflix and has been lucky at various award ceremonies. She is well deserved and totally owns each award she is getting because her performance in the series is on another level. She was nominated for the Oscars twice before but wasn’t lucky enough to win in any of those categories.
When the announcement for her was made she was delighted and surprised and came up to the stage and thanked Noah Baumbach for choosing her to play the character. She have a heartwarming speech at the stage and said “Noah [Baumbach] wrote a movie about love,” Dern expressed on the stage. “The movie is about breaching divisions in the name and in the honor of family and home and hopefully for all of us in the name of our planet.”
“I would like to say a special thank you to the gifts of the love stories of my life, my stepchildren, CJ and Harris, my heart and inspiration, Ellery and Jaya,” She further said. “You know, some say never meet your heroes, but I say if you’re really blessed you get them as your parents. I share this with my acting heroes, my legends, Dianne Ladd and Bruce Dern.” She also named people she respects and considers them to be a part her success.
Lauren was celebrating her birthday when the award ceremony was held. She further went on to add in her speech “this is the best birthday present, ever.”
This was the third Oscar nomination for Dern and she has been previously nominated for Rambling Rose and Wild. It has been a great and fulfilling award season for Lauren because besides Oscars she has also won other awards for her performance in Marriage story. The movie was the first in her career that helped her to get acknowledged as an actress.

Her parents were also nominated for the Academy Awards for their performances in various roles but weren’t lucky enough to win any awards in her active career. She mentioned in her speech that she has been brought up in Hollywood it was her dream to win an Academy Award always. In a recent interview with a magazine, she revealed that she was born by parents who are actors and she has been taught that preparing a speech ahead of time doesn’t work. The happiness comes from within when you go to the stage and receive the award and living in the moment and expressing your view on the spot is the best thing one can do.
