Oscars 2020: ‘Hair Love’ went from a Kickstarter to an Oscar winner

Matthew A. Cherry created his own kickstarer campaign in 2017 when he hoped for getting some useful funding for the animated short film he was hoping to make. Interestingly the animated film was about a black father who learned to do hairstyling of her daughter’s hair. Cherry had been thinking about doing this project for quite some time but he finally made a decision when internet was flooding with many interesting videos which showed black fathers learning the art of hairstyling for the sake of their daughters. So rather than just doing the dubbing for Hair Love he chose to make a special film on the bonding of father and daughters.

You will be surprised to know that after three years of his strong vision in the making of the film he was nominated by the Oscars. We are always very happy with the selection of nominations when it comes to the Oscars because they don’t leave any deserving person behind. When the angry birds 2 was released just before that important release his film got the much needed appreciation among eyes of people.

Hair love is surely an exciting and preachy movie at the same time. It revolved around the story of a 7 year old girl named Zuri who had a lot of kinky curls on her hair. The curls are not easy to deal with and the maker of this film knew it very well. The little girl tries various attempts on her hair by watching a Vlog made by her mother but her efforts did not go in her favor and despite repeated attempts she couldn’t succeed. As it’s an animated movie the voice cast has done an amazing job and we can feel for the characters that are starring as animated characters. The unique concept has won the heart of millions and how well the relationship of a father and daughter has been portrayed it is to be seen. The short film is not only unique but very gripping as well.

When all these efforts by the little Zuri go on we get to witness the entry of her beloved father who had the same looks and complexion as her. He had to go through similar issues but couldn’t really sort out her curls. The little girl could not help but cry when her father’s attempts fails too. He later comes up with a good moisturizer and conditioner before twisting and turning them into a good hairstyle. Straightening of the hair is quite difficult normally and when the sorting out of hair curls is done effectively it takes a lot of time and effort. The stylish row of buns are created one by one and the hard work of her father finally turns out to be advantageous.

In a very recent interview to Washington post Cherry said that Hair Love” was twofold. The idea behind the movie was to motivate the kids to be happy with their natural hair as it’s a gift of God. He wanted to portray how black fathers work hard to give their children the best of hair. After watching a lot of such movies on the internet he was totally inspired by the idea of giving this concept a chance to be showcased on screen. The black fathers are deeply attached with the life of their children and even their hairdos. The response to the film was so overwhelming and this is the reason it was nominated by the Oscars 2020.If the nomination wasn’t enough the film went on to become a big winner at the Oscars too and Cherry can’t help but feel proud.
