Keep Yourself Healthy by Keeping Your Skin Healthy

There is an old saying that goes “Beauty is only skin deep.” However, so can health. When you consider physiology, the main purpose of your skin is protection. When people think of immunity, they imagine white blood cells fighting off pathogens. However, what keeps those pathogens from entering your body in the first place? That’s right; it is your skin! Keeping your skin health means keeping your first line of defence healthy. A great way to maintain your skin is through hydration, such as using a Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum.

Main Causes of Skin Dryness

Weather

It is already common knowledge that your body is around 60 to 70% water.  Thus, hydration is essential for overall health, and it is equally so for your skin. But how does your skin dry up in the first place? A common reason is atmospheric conditions. You may think that your skin can dry up due to the hot weather. Although this is true, your skin dries up more in cold weather, especially in the winter. During this time, both the temperature and humidity tend to go down. This combination allows moisture in your skin to evaporate more quickly since. You may know people who complain about tight and flaky skin in the winter season. That is a sign of dryness. You may have even heard of the winter itch or winter eczema. In extreme cases, dryness can lead to cracking and inflammation.

Water

Ironically, your skin can also dry up if you over-expose it to water, especially to hot water. Experts in dermatology advise against long hot baths and showers. The hot water can remove the natural oils on your skin, and basically opening the floodgates for the water to evaporate. Experts also advise against long or frequent swimming in pools heavy with chlorine as well as overusing cleaning products such as soaps and detergents. These chemicals can also strip away the oils on your skin and thereby lead to water evaporation and drying.

Hydration and Hyaluronic Acid

By now, you already how important skin hydration is, but how do you go about it? An excellent way is by using a product with hyaluronic acid, such as a Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum. You may be thinking now, “Hya-what now?” Hyaluronic acid is a compound that your body naturally produces. Can you guess where it is most abundant? Your skin! It is also found in your connective tissue and eyes. The main purpose of hyaluronic acid is to keep water in your cells, so they remain lubricated. A study even found that between 120 to 240 mg of hyaluronic acid per day for a month can improve skin moisture and lower dry skin.

By hydrating your skin, you gain both aesthetic and functional benefits, such as reducing wrinkles, redness, and even dermatitis. Remember how your skin is your first line of defence against pathogens? Those pathogens can enter your body through wounds. Well, hyaluronic acid can help those wounds heal faster by regulating inflammation. Without going through the complicated biology, it tells your cells to create more blood vessels in the damaged area to hasten the repair. Moreover, hyaluronic acid has antibacterial properties. Thus, applying it on open wounds can help fight off infection.

Hydrating your skin goes beyond vanity. In the modern world, your skin suffers from both natural dangers, weather and artificial ones, such as harsh chemicals and pollutants. And the main way these dangers attack is by reducing skin hydration. By hydrating your skin, you not only keep your skin healthy but yourself as well.
