Brazil’s future President Jair Balsonaro wants to liberalise the weapons law, directly after his arrival, on new year’s day by decree.

“With a decree, we want to guarantee the possession of firearms for citizens without a criminal record,” wrote the Ex-military on Twitter. Already in the election campaign, Bolsonaro had announced, to facilitate access to weapons. So citizens could defend his opinion against Criminals.

Already, a large number of illegal weapons in Brazil in the circulation. Critics fear that liberalisation of the weapons law could exacerbate the violence. Brazil suffers from a crime wave: in 2017, more than 63,000 people were killed. For comparison: In Germany in the last year, about 730 homicides.
