Early Life

Faith Evans was born Faith Renée Evans on June 10, 1973, in Lakeland, Florida. Her mother Helene was a professional singer, and her father, Richard Swain was also in the music field. Faith and her mother moved to Newark, New Jersey, and she was brought up by Johnnie Mae who is Helene’s cousin.

Faith was brought up in a Christian household and started singing in the church at the age of 2. She attended Newark’s University High School and was a part of many jazz bands. Evans enrolled at New York City’s Fordham University but she quit studying due to her pregnancy. She gave birth to her daughter, Chyna.

Evans moved to Los Angeles in 1993 and started singing as a back singer for Al B. Sure!, “Puff Daddy” Combs, who signed her to Bad Boy Entertainment label and she released her first studio album.

She signed with Capitol Records and her first album, “The First Lady,” hit #2 on the “Billboard” 200. The album was certified Gold. The same year she released her album “A Faithful Christmas.”  She recorded tracks with Snoop Dogg, Raekwon, Keyshia Cole, and Redman.

Her “Incomparable” was released in 2014 and was a big success. She was also a part of the album “The King & I,” which featured duets with the late Notorious B.I.G, in 2017.

Acting Career

Faith acted in plays when she was a teenager. She starred with Ja Rule, Pras, and Jason Statham in the movie “Turn It Up.” She was also a part of “The Fighting Temptations,” which starred Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé. Evans has appeared in many films that include:
