French Open: Dan Evans Out, Daniil Medvedev Makes Progress

The British No 2 has lost four sets to Mikael Ymer. Cameron Norrie will now be the last British man who will remain as the main draw. Daniil Medvedev will progress through to the third round. Casper Ruud will be a part of the straight-sets win which means that he advances in the draw too.

Dan Evans Knocked Out Of French Open

Dan Evans was knocked out of the French Open while playing the second round. He was being hampered by a chest infection. Evans lost 3-6 6-3 2-6 3-6 to Mikael Ymer. As the match progressed, he struggled physically. Evans’ departure from the men’s singles main draw revealed that the No 1 Cameron Norrie is the only remaining British interest.

Norrie has warmed up for the French Open and will win the Lyon Open title. He is the 10th seed at Roland Garros and has been performing well. He dropped a set during the first two rounds. Norrie will take on Karen Khachanov, on Friday and their contest will be the fourth match on Court Simonne-Mathieu.

Evans Conqueror Ymer To Play Stefonons Tsitsipas

Evans’ conqueror Ymer will be playing Stefanos Tsitsipas next. Tsitsipas will be beaten by Novak Djokovic in last year’s final – which was advanced with a marathon four-set victory. He won the game with a score of 6-3 7-6 6-7-7-6 in over four hours. He rallied for four set points and went down in the fourth set.

Evans broke down after a slow start and was all set behind following a 14-minute ninth game. He saved five set points and was squandered two breakpoints, before succumbing. Evans was booed by the crowd after he returned to the net to lose the match. He said:

“I couldn’t care less. I gave away the last point, but I couldn’t care less, to be honest with you.

“I think I’d put enough effort in for three-and-a-half hours. I was physically spent. That was it for me. It’s frustrating and it’s upsetting, don’t get me wrong, but that’s the way it goes.

“I’ve been struggling with the chest infection. It’s not ideal really. Normal symptoms, sweating a lot at the night, bad sleep. It probably took a lot out of me. It’s not an excuse. I was in some good situations, but physically I wasn’t spot on.”

Medvedev moves into the third round

Daniil Medvedev moved into the third round with a  score of 6-3 6-4 6-3. He conquered the game and won over Serbian Laslo Djere. The world No 2, reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros last year. He won four consecutive first-round exits but struggled at times. He later found a way over the line on and admitted that he is not his favorite.

He will meet 28th seed Miomir Kecmanovic in the next game who has beat Alexander Bublik in four sets 4-6 7-5 6-2 6-1.

“Today I think, to be honest, Laslo was playing the better clay-court tennis,” Medvedev said while he gave an on-court interview.

“But I managed to fight and just put one more ball in the court than him. it was a very tough match, but I am happy to win.

“I honestly think I played better in the first round,” he reflected. “I definitely need to play better next round, because it’s going to be tougher and tougher. Again, I am not going to lie, I prefer hard courts.”
